Binuclear Cu2+ complex mediated discrimination between L-glutamate and L-aspartate in water.

2005

L-Glutamate and L-aspartate selectivity is achieved by the action of two Cu2+ metal ions rightly disposed in a cyclophanetype macrocyclic framework; electrochemical sensing of glutamate has been achieved by adsorption of the copper complexes on graphite electrodes. A l-glutamate-responsive delivery system based on enzyme-controlled self-immolative arylboronate-gated nanoparticles

2019

We report herein a L-glutamate (L-Glu)-responsive delivery system. It consists of Janus Au–mesoporous silica (MS) nanoparticles functionalized with L-glutamate oxidase on the Au face and with self-immolative arylboronate derivatives as caps on the MS face. The MS face is additionally loaded with a cargo. The delivery paradigm is based on the recognition of L-Glu by the enzyme and the subsequent formation of H2O2, which induces the cleavage of the self-immolative gate and the uncapping of the pores. Given the importance of L-Glu as a key neurotransmitter, we hope that these findings will help in designing new therapeutic strategies for nervous system diseases.

N-acetyl-L-glutamate in brain: assay, levels, and regional and subcellular distribution.

1991

N-Acetyl-L-glutamate (NAG), the activator of mitochondrial carbamoyl phosphate synthetase (CPS), is demonstrated by several methods, including a new HPLC assay, in the brain of mammals and of chicken. The brain levels of NAG are 200-300 times lower than the levels of N-acetyl-L-aspartate (NAA), and are similar to the levels of NAG in rat liver. The NAG levels in chicken liver are very low. Although NAG is mitochondrial in the liver, it is cytosolic in brain. Using enzyme activity and immuno assays we did not detect CPS in brain (detection limit, 12.5 micrograms/g brain), excluding that brain NAG is involved in citrullinogenesis. The regional distribution of brain NAG differs from that of NA…
